| SUPPORT |
We
are committed to supporting the education
of pupils and working in partnership
with school correspondents/governing
bodies, principals, teachers, parents,
government and others involved in
the operation and management of schools
through a range of school improvement
services. |
|
|
|
| EQUIP |
Finding
that a majority of schools serving
low-income families did not have the
resources to take up infrastructure
related improvements, CfBT explored
possibilities of partnerships with
financial institutions for capacity
building in such schools, and HSBC
was quick to respond to the perceived
need. ‘EQUIP’:
Enabling Quality Improvement Programmes
in schools is a combination of financial
assistance from HSBC and educational
support from CfBT for all-round quality
improvement in schools serving low-income
families. Around 50 schools in Hyderabad
and Chennai have benefited under this
scheme. The progress of the schools
is being tracked and monitored by
CfBTES with EMIS (Education Management
Information System), a web-based software,
developed specifically for this purpose.
|
|
| PRAJWALA |
Prajwala
is an NGO that is primary concerned
with anti-trafficking and the prevention
of the worst form of human exploitation-
prostitution. CfBTES supported Prajwala
through capacity building programmes
for their teachers and school managers
and the provision of a printing machine
for their enterprise wing. |
|
We also contributed in setting up
libraries, science labs and provided
teaching learning materials. A significant
improvement was brought about in the
communication skills of the teachers
and students through PEELS (Programme
for Enhancement of English Language
Skills). This project was funded by
CfBT Education Trust, UK. The impact
of the project was assessed by an
independent expert. |
|
| Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) |

Chance
for a child is a charity scheme supported
by the staff of CfBT Education Trust,
UK. This scheme provides financial
assistance to high school students
who hail from low-income families
and face difficulties in paying the
school fees. It helps in lowering
the dropout rate in high school. |
|
| Scholarships
are provided to students who meet three
objective criteria: |
| |
Merit:
Students who have scored 75%
or more in the class VII Board
examination evidenced by the
marks memo of the students.
|
| |
Means: Students from
families whose income is not
more than Rs. 3000 per month
evidenced by a white ration
card. |
| |

who continue their high school
education evidenced by a fee

|
|
| Career
Fairs |
 |
CfBTES
and the Rotary Club of Hyderabad jointly
organize career fairs for students
of standards X to XII annually to
create awareness about the need for
skilled manpower in a developing country
like India and the wide range of career
options available to them. More than
6,000 students and parents from 100
schools in the twin cities of Hyderabad
and Secunderabad participated in the
fairs conducted in 2005 and 2006. |
|
| Donor
Activities |
CfBTES
approached SBI Ladies Club, Hyderabad
and Lions Club Of Tarnaka to provide
pre-school furniture, play equipment
and teaching aids to five of our enrolled
schools. SBI Ladies Club and Lions
Club of Tarnaka came forward willingly
and donated equipment and materials
worth Rs 30,000/- to each school. |
|
| Circulating
Library |
CfBTES
started a circulating library project
to assist schools that do not have
a library or have poor library facilities.
Age appropriate story and reference
books are circulated in a box to schools
and each school keeps the book box
for a fortnight. Each school receives
a new set of books every fortnight
and this creates an interest for reading
in the students. The project has helped
the children in these schools to have
an accessible library. |
|
| ERC |
 |
The
Education Resource Centre (ERC) located
at our office is a pool of facilities
and resources for teachers, students
and school managers to encourage lifelong
learning and continuous improvement.
There are around 1600 books related
to teacher training, English language
development and leadership and managerial
skills. The ERC supports CPD and is
regularly updated with new books. |
|
| Face
to Face |
Face
to Face with CfBT is one of the services
we provide to schools enrolled with
us. It is a display board consisting
of two sections – the informative
section and the interactive section.
|
|
The
informative section consists of little
known facts and figures from different
fields of life and the interactive
section has puzzles, riddles and brainteasers
from different subjects. Our intention
is to ignite the thirst for knowledge
in the students and enjoy learning. |
|
| Subject
Orientation Programmes |
 |
CFBT
Education
Services conducts subject orientation
programmes in a common venue for
member schools in Mathematics, Science,
Social Studies and pre-primary subjects.
These programmes are conducted to
upgrade the subject knowledge of
teachers and to explore effective
ways of teaching their respective
subjects.
|
|
| Micro-Libraries |
To
support schools that have no library
facility at all CfBTES has donated
books covering various areas and age
groups to encourage the reading habit
in children. 5 schools have benefited
from this service. |
|
| Scholarships |
CfBT
Education Services helped the Rotary
Club of Hyderabad in identifying class
X students of low-income families
from various schools – both
government and private - and enabled
them to continue their studies. As
a part of the centenary celebrations
of Rotary International, the Rotary
Club of Hyderabad presented 100 Merit-cum-Means
scholarships worth Rs 1000/- to each
of these children in need in 2005.
In 2006, scholarships were awarded
to 50 meritorious students. |
